ACADEMICS

All academic instruction and learning strategies are individualized at The Northwest Florida Academy.

  • The individual student learning profile drives academic instruction.
  • Our academic program addresses the essential components of reading:  phonological awareness, phonics/word attack/decoding, vocabulary, comprehension, encoding, spelling, and fluency. â€‹
  • Our reading and learning groups are small (3 or less students in a group).
  • The student's academic and language skill levels are compatible with the class so that he or she can succeed in group activities and receive instruction that is on their level.
The sky is the limit at The Northwest Florida Academy, where we firmly believe that each student has the potential to succeed and it is our job to help them get there. By designing our units of study around a therapy based instructional program, we give our students the vision to see, the courage to try and the will to succeed academically.  Our students attend 171 school days for a total of 940.5 hours of instruction per year.

Expected Outcomes
We have three basic academic goals for working with our students:

  1. To assist each student in learning how he or she learns best and how to utilize effective strategies to maximize their learning.

  2. To increase student achievement through individualized direct remedial instruction.

  3. To help children become self advocates who are willing to actively engage in learning situations through successful use of accommodations and technology.
